ABOUT

In the past twenty years Davide Tosco has matured experiences as art-director, media advisor, creative producer, author and director for radio, television and online productions. Has delivered lectures and seminars on new media for marketing executives of Italian public radio and television’s networks RAI and RAI Advertising (public broadcaster’s media agency), Social Media Week, School of Management and Economics (Master in Analysis of television production and cross-media communication, University of Turin), Cinema Engineering and communication (Department of Social Science and Cross-media, Polytechnic of Turin), Cultural Anthropology (Department of Sociology, University of Bicocca Milan), Eurovision Science and Knowledge Experts’ Annual Meeting (Berlin). Recently was hired by Swiss public Radio and Television RSI consulting on multi-platform programs and audience participation.

 

Creative producer of the first native transmedia project realised by the Italian public radio-television network (Best On Line production’s finalist at Prix Europa 2012), has been multiplatform producer for public broadcaster RAI 3, RAI EDU, RAI NET and RADIO 3 (Grand Prix for Best program at Japan Prize 2013 and Best non-fiction Youth Programm at BANFF 2014, Finalist at Prix Europa/ Best Online Production (2013, 2104, 2015), IMPACT, Prix Jeunesse, INPUT and Prix Italia 2014). As author/director collaborates with German, Italian and Swiss national radio channels SWR 1, RADIO RAI 3, RETE 2/ RSI. From 1997 has been author, director and producer of television documentaries broadcast by channel such as ARTE, RTBF, TSR, SBS, SABC1, PHOENIX, ZDF/3SAT, TELE+, RAI3, FOX/HISTORY CHANNEL, SKY, FRANCE 5, PLANET, CANAL+, UR. In 2009 produced for public broadcaster RAI 3 the most awarded Italian documentary of the year with 17 national and international prizes.

 

Based in Berlin (1989-1996) working for film and tv productions while realising radio-plays and features broadcast by channels such as SFB 3 (Germany) and ORF 1 (Austria). Between 1992-96 produced programs for PARK 4DTV video art slot broadcast on cable television channel SALTO (Netherlands). Moved to Cape Town (1996-2001) directing series programs on art and current affairs for the Italian commercial broadcaster RETE 4 and South African public television SABC 3,  director of photography for documentaries, educational dramas and art videos. Operated as program development officer for agencies implementing art-based educational modules with youth at risk in the most violent suburban areas and correctional institutions of the Western Cape Province. Curated traveling exhibitions, art-directed publications and prevention campaigns against gangs violence, executive produced series programs and educative radio-plays for a national network of 80 community radios. Collaborated with the Institute of Criminology (UCT – University of Cape Town) on the development of media-related projects with young offenders. Has been creative consultant for the South African Departments of Public Safety, the Ministries of Education, Justice and Correctional Services developing cultural projects, public awareness campaigns on crime and drug prevention.

 

In 2001 returned to Italy to work for RAI 3, leading geopolitical public tv program, begun directing music videos, entertainment programs and commercials aired on main national private broadcasters such as CANALE 5, LA7, MTV, ALL MUSIC and DJ Television. Over the years collaborated with companies such as Zenit Arti Audiovisive, Fargofilm (Turin), Endemol, Greed (Rome), Les Film d’Ici (Paris), VentanaFilms (Berlin), art-directed multi-media campaign, curated public awareness initiatives and educational tools for the Ministry of Labour, National Antidiscrimination Office (UNAR), European Union Social Fund, Council of Europe, International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and has been media advisor for the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI). In 2012 headed crossmedia development unit at Fargofilm. At present collaborate as creative producer and multiplatform formats developer with Showlab (Milan, Turin, Rome, Moscow, Dubai).

SALEMM is an international parnership program (2013-2015) designed to preventing irregular migration of unaccompanied youth from Morocco, Tunisia and Egypy.

SMILE

A multiplatform investigation on social behavior and drug consumption amongst young people, SMILE encompass simoultaneous release of a 50′ tv docudrama with syncronised original content on mobile 2nd screen, social media and crosspromotion web/tv (smile.rai.it).

 

The docudrama evolves in 10 additional scripted episodes published on the public broadcaster’s web platform transforming real accounts into dramatised events.

Screenings and discussions in public schools are one of  the offline elements utilising the program as a tool for prevention and debate.

CULTURAL SHOCK

The first Italian edutainment cross-media program aimed at discovering the origins of second generation youth through a series of adventurous journeys to their native countries.

Launched with a casting contest on the web participants could win a trip and be protagonist of a multiplatform show (mobile/radio/tv/web). Winning couple traveled following 5 basic rules designed to enhance the unknown aspects of the program and to immerse them deep into the local culture. The program’s outputs included a live blog with instant messaging/photographing and sharing of short videos, live radio broadcasts and features on national public channels RADIO2 and RADIO3, TV highlights and promos during the traveling days and in the following months with a main 30’ tv feature on RAI SCUOLA channel.
